Description
The role involves joining the « implicit flexibility » product team within the Market Energy Solutions department. This team is responsible for designing the balancing philosophy, defining imbalance pricing mechanisms, and developing related processes and terms & conditions. The consultant will play a central role in developing advanced methods to track implicit reactions to price signals, particularly imbalance prices. These insights will support the optimization of energy consumption and the continuous improvement of system operations and market design.
The position requires a strong background in data science, with the ability to apply machine learning and statistical methods to large datasets. The consultant will contribute to the development of algorithms that quantify implicit flexibility and provide actionable insights for internal stakeholders. The work will directly influence product design and policy decisions.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Gather information on available flexibility through desktop research, interviews, data analysis, and estimation methods.
- Conduct data analyses to explore the relationship between renewable energy forecasts, price signals, market behavior, and system imbalances.
- Integrate various data sources to build a comprehensive view of installed, available, and activated flexibility in the system.
- Translate findings into actionable insights and disseminate results across departments.
- Contribute to other data science initiatives within the implicit flexibility team as needed.
Profile
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Data Scientist and at least 5 years of experience in Python programming.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to understand and model complex systems.
- Proficiency in statistical methods and machine learning techniques for large-scale data analysis.
- Ability to translate business questions into quantitative approaches and communicate findings clearly using data.
- Solid understanding of the energy market, with prior experience in the electricity sector considered a strong asset.
- Ability to manage a mix of operational and conceptual tasks independently.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Quick learner with a proactive and positive attitude.
- Detail-oriented while maintaining a strategic overview.
- Capable of driving project implementation and delivering concrete results.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); fluency in Dutch and/or French is preferred.
- Team-oriented, solution-driven, and an effective communicator.
