Context
Our client is seeking an interim Team Lead Data Engineer to ensure continuity following the upcoming departure of the current team lead. The mission is expected to start as soon as possible to allow for a handover period. It will conclude once a permanent team lead is onboarded, also with a transition phase. The current team consists of 7 internal members with varying levels of experience and 2 external consultants. The data department recently merged with the digital transformation team, forming a group of around 60 people. The goal is to accelerate the client’s data, AI, and digital transformation.
Role & responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Enablement: Provide guidance and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Data Infrastructure Management: Oversee and optimize the core data infrastructure to ensure performance and reliability.
- Project Implementation: Support the delivery of large-scale Big Data projects, including pipeline development and maintenance.
- Performance Optimization: Assist the team in designing and optimizing data processing and retrieval performance.
- Data Modeling: Supervise the creation and maintenance of conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned with internal standards.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into effective data solutions.
- Technical Expertise: Leverage expertise in SQL, Big Data, NoSQL technologies, and Python to drive technical excellence.
- Software Lifecycle: Guide the team in following and improving the data product lifecycle.
- Target Operating Model: Contribute to defining and implementing the target operating model for the digital, data, AI, and automation department.
- Agile Methodology: Operate within an Agile framework to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality data solutions.
Profile
Technical skills
- Cloud technologies (certification is a plus; AWS preferred).
- Software development lifecycle.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Experience with traditional ETL tools.
- Data Vault and other data modeling techniques.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices.
Softs skillls
- Proven experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring technical teams (minimum 2 years required; 5+ years preferred).
- Strong teamwork, problem-solving mindset, and communication skills.
- Fluency in French and English (spoken and written).
Start & duration
The consultant is expected to start in the second half of July for an initial period of 6 months, with a possible extension for another 6 months. A minimum of 4 working days per week is required, with a preference for full-time availability.
The mission should begin as soon as possible, allowing 1–2 weeks for administrative setup after confirmation.
Engagement terms
The consultant will work as a Team Lead Data Engineer, 8 hours per day, at least 4 days per week (Monday to Friday), except in the following cases:
- National holidays
- Substitution days applicable to the client’s staff
- Force majeure (see also “Personnel de l’adjudicataire” – art. 16 ARE)
- Pre-approved absences communicated in writing and validated by the manager, based on service and continuity needs
Currently, the team works from the office on Mondays (possibly changing to Tuesdays soon) and Thursdays. The consultant is expected to be present in the Molenbeek office on those days. Exceptions may be granted if justified and communicated in advance to the line manager.
